Before I could proceed any further, I felt that I had to strip the bicycle of reference to its previous life. This involved removing all hardware that was not necessary to its new purpose, and sandblasting all the paint off, which took much longer to do than I expected.In this image, I've just welded a plate behind the bottom bracket (where the bike will be mounted to the base), and I'm grinding off excess metal from the weld.
